Algebra 1B

Algebra 1B covers the second semester of a two-semester course. The course is based on the TEKS and aligned to the TAKS. For more details, read our TEKS/TAKS Alignment.

Unit 4 explores systems of equations, focusing on multiple methods for solving systems.

Unit 5 provides an introduction to quadratic equations, examining the quadratic parent function and multiple methods for graphing.

Unit 6 continues the study of quadratic equations, addressing methods for modeling and solving equations.

Unit 7 explores nonlinear functions, such as exponential functions.

You will experience some things that you may not have come across before in a mathematics course:
• Learning math by solving real life problems
• Using interactive technology to practice the algebra you learn
• Making use of both graphing calculators and concrete models to represent and understand the mathematics

In each of the four units in this course, you will use algebra to help solve a different community problem:
• Organizing a health and fitness plan
• Designing a community garden
• Predicting how fast rumors can spread
• Investigating new ways for catching speeders

As you tackle the community problems in this course, you will learn how an algebraic expression or equation that can help solve a complex real life problem.
